I’ve found it helpful to learn about abuse, pornography, addiction and codependence. Learning about abuse and addiction has helped me to have more compassion for my loved ones and has also given me hope that we can all overcome the temptations around us. Learning about codependence has helped me to see where my behavior and thinking is not healthy and given me hope that I can grow and change. We can teach ourselves and those we love how to stay pure and clean even with the increasing evil in our world.

Knowledge turns abuse, pornography and addiction from bad words that we can’t talk about, into evils that we can discuss and fight. Recovery support groups are wonderful and can help individuals find recovery, peace and hope.

Family and friends of those who are abusive, have addictions or other behavioral problems often learn negative survival methods, have PTSD, and anxiety. Support groups have been one part of my recovery. They have helped save my life from despair, anxiety, worry and fear. They have taught me how to use the atonement of Jesus Christ to grow and change. Through the atonement I am finding peace, hope and serenity.

An old Cherokee chief was teaching his grandson about life… “A fight is going on inside me,” he said to the boy. It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil – he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, self-doubt, and ego (and I would add codependence, abuse, pornography, alcohol, drugs, and other addictions). The other is good – he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. This same fight is going on inside you – and inside every other person, too. The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, which wolf will win? The old chief simply replied, the one you feed.”
